“The world’s biggest power is the youth and the beauty of woman.”- Chanakya.

India has the highest number of youth population in the world with 365 million number of 10-24 years old. The beauty of Mother India could be achieved and be maintained through sanitation and cleanliness. As youth are the backbone of the nation. Youth become the important contributors when it comes to sanitation and cleanliness. Hence, increasing the power of the society and the nation.

Cleanliness refers to the state of being clean. It is something which must not be forced but encouraged. As every youth should develop the habit of cleanliness which can beneficial to the whole nation and even can enhance the quality of one’s life. “A sound mind in a sound body” as the quote states that one should have a clean body in order to have a cleaner soul and mind. It’s not a tough task to complete rather cleanliness is quite easy. It is essential for the health and wellbeing of humans and animals. Cleanliness will also keep us physically fit and also enhance our lifespan. Also similarly, cleanliness in our society mean enhanced beauty and healthiness of the surrounding. It just doesn’t beautify the area but also make it more attractive which in turn gives peace for the mind and can also be helpful in attracting more tourists to enhance the economy of the country.

Sanitation refers to the public health conditions related to clean drinking water, and treatment and disposal of human waste with proper sewage system. Poor sanitation puts children and youth at risk of diseases and malnutrition which can impact on overall development, learning and later in life, lack of sanitation can be a barrier to individual prosperity and sustainable development. Without proper sanitation, it can also lead to spread of harmful deadly disease like malaria and dengue which are caused by mosquitoes grown in the places of poor sanitation which in turn be a risk to health and livelihoods. Proper sanitation promotes health, improves the quality of the environment and thus, enhancing the quality of life in a society.

Me being a youth, playing a role in sanitation and cleanliness, I ask myself these following questions: what can be done to achieve cleanliness and sanitation? What can I do in order to keep my society clean and safe from disease? How to maintain cleanliness and sanitation? In order to achieve cleanliness and sanitation every youth should join hands, starting from own society we should keep our surroundings clean, just by not littering wherever we like would contribute to a greater cleanliness, and together participating in the cleanliness campaign like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which was started by prime minister of India Narendra Modi and cleaning our streets, parks and spreading awareness throughout the world leading to achieve cleanliness at greater level. Sanitation can be achieved by checking or by avoiding the collection of rainwater or drainage water in any open water bodies or in tyres sanitation is maintained by having proper sewage system and by using public restrooms.

Me as a youth can keep the society clean starting from my own house, cleaning and taking out the garbage and properly disposing it which in turn will have my house clean and tidy. And even in school or college I can maintain cleanliness by not littering in the classroom or anywhere in the premises and by properly disposing wastes in dustbins. In order to maintain sanitation, I could clean the bench, where I sit to eat if I spilled anything and properly flushing and washing hand after the use of toilet will play a huge role in sanitation. Furthermore we can maintain cleanliness and sanitation by adopting the three R’s : Reduce, Recycle and Reuse in society to avoid the garbage collection across the streets.

“Sanitation is more important than political freedom” -Mahatma Gandhi.

It is the responsibility of every youth in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in society. As youth are the bigger contributors in the field of cleanliness and sanitation. It can influence the growth of nation’s economy at a great extent and also increase the beauty of the nation. It not only improve a nation but also enhance the quality of education and knowledge of every youth and children thus making society a safer place even for older generations. Overall through sanitation and cleanliness with youth playing a huge role thus improves society’s and even whole nation’s health wealth and prosperity.
